This review is written by MWSAH and written on 2008-08-17 04:56 pm. Performance: Very good, in my humble opinion. I discovered this show a few months ago and immediately fell in love with it. Bono's voice is just brilliant, and the band has an awesome performance of Bad. Not a typical Bad as we know it, but very solid. Audience: Just good, not the best. But Scottisch people are always good to party with. Sound: I remastered this one myself, but the difference isn't that big. A good, solid 4 star audience recording. Overall: A very nice TUF-show, download it if you don't own it yet.

I think this is a hidden gem of a show - the band are on fire, the crowd raise the roof and I was fairly blown away. The more I listen to 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, the more I fall in love with it, particularly here when Bono shouts "this is the real guitar player!" before Edge's solo part, which is just incredible anyway, but this has got to rate as one of the best performances I've yet to come across - a great show opener. The band drives through the main set with a kind of reckless abandon combined with verve and panáche, a few of the highlights for me being; Wire - my God I love this song, and this performance does it full justice. The Unforgettable Fire - a lot of people have now put this as one of the great performances, and were it not for the performance from Denver (1987-07-11) I would be inclined to agree. Two Hearts Beat As One - I don't like this song that much, still don't really, but as far as this show goes, it's an amazing performance and the crowd fed off the energy it generates; just listen to them sing the refrain on the first chorus...awesome. Seconds - another song I love, and again, a far more refined and polished performance that the War tour ever threw up in my opinion. The Electric Co. - for one, it's opened by The Cry, with for me is just a must for this song; it doesn't sound complete for me without that riff. Although I have a preference for later performances of early U2 songs like this, I Will Follow, Gloria etc. (although I agree that Sunday Bloody Sunday has lost some of its appeal now it's been dropped down a key and lost some of the energy it used to have), this performance is special. I haven't heard any other performances with the Amazing Grace snippet, but Bono just blew me away here during the break after Edge's solo...that was singing from the heart at its rawest and most hair-raising. I don't care for shouting, screaming, bawling etc., give me singing with soul. That was soul if I ever heard it. Ok, A Sort Of Homecoming was slightly spoiled for me by the crowd clapping out of time and either Bono or Edge seemed to go out of sync. slightly, but that was probably the only blemish on an otherwise stunning performance. Loved every minute of it! Audience: This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated. Sound: First thing to note - get the remaster, it's well worth it. The sound on both is good but the remaster version brings depth to the bootleg and the crowd isn't too overpowering (which is quite refreshing for me, for whom most of my experiences with 80s audience recordings haven't been best...). Adam's bass blends in well, Edge's guitar chimes through as only Edge can, Bono's vocals are typical of the era and Larry drives the show along with an impeccable performance on the drum. Overall: If you haven't got this show yet, get it. In the meantime, hats off to the band for pulling off incredible performances such as this that we can uncover, polish the dust off and remind ourselves just why; a) they're the best band the world has seen, and probably ever will, and; b) why we love them so much. Who needs drugs when you can listen to U2?

Glasgow seems to have caught U2 at their TUF peak (or close to their peak) at this gig. This was an energised performance from top to bottom of which much credit should be given to a very fine and solid setlist. There was a great balance of the first four albums and the whole show flowed quite fluidly with exciting high points of energy (opening set, SBS-Electric Co. and Pride) coupled with beautifully intimate moments (A Sort of Homecoming, October & 40). With Edge well and truly on song, all tracks were performed very proficiently particularly the 'classics' such as Pride and SBS. This was the first of two TUF concerts for the Glaswegians who were a very excited bunch and Bono saw fit to feed off that energy. A wonderful performance from a band obviously proud of and excited about their new material at the time. Highlights (there are many but I'll keep it to a handful) TUF & ASOH - I won't harp on this because I know how everyone feels about these two. Both were stunning renditions however I felt ASOH was more like the album version compared to other live recordings and Bono was holding back a little during TUF. Note to Bono: Please play ASOH when you next tour Australia.... The Cry/Electric Co. - There's a very good reason why this track was a constant staple during the first four tours - it always went off! More specifically, Bono went off, Edge went off and the crowd, ultimately went off! This gig was no exception. There's been better snippets than Amazing Grace but this song once again demonstrated its wonderful durability. Gloria - I love this song! It's very adaptable live. Whether it feature in the opening set, as part of an encore or smack bang in the middle, it immediately excites regardless of what it follows or what it precedes and once again this rendition didn't disappoint. Other notables: Party Girl - It was played how it should be played - electric. I never want to see Edge play it acoustically again. It's just a let down. Pride - Edge was flawless here I felt. Low Points This was such a great show, faults were very few and far between but if I was to be pedantic.... Two Hearts Beat As One - It's a weak song. This was one of the best renditions I've heard but you can only sugar-coat a turd so much and it shouldn't be in any setlist. It's no wonder it was shortlived. No Bad snippets. EDIT: No recognisable Bad snippets. Audience: This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated. Sound: I don't know what Casper did to the original but he did a sterling job. This was one of the best to be reviewed by BRT in recent times. It offered a crisp, clear, audible recording totally deserving of its 4-star rating here. No song could be faulted and the audience also had their voice at the right spots - a near perfect presence. They weren't overly audible nor were they mute. But I guess the main reason I was left extremely satisfied was one word: Adam. His bass had a very clear presence through Edge and Larry which is somewhat of a rarity on most boots. Very good sound which gave rise to a stellar TUF performance (see below). Overall: Great choosing Casper! Unlikely I would have listened to this gig had it not been a BRT show. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to hear the band during the mid-80's. This one's staying on my iPod for a little while yet.

This review is written by drewhiggins and written on 2008-08-19 07:19 pm. Performance: All the good songs are played here, so nothing really poor as far as I'm concerned. All the songs are played to their ultimate potential - and this boot I think is a serious contender for the best version of TUF. Apart from that, as others above me have said, it has to be the best Bad next to the R&H from the 80s. MLK is so haunting here, I got shivers up my back. Songs like Electric Co, Gloria, Bad, ''40'', Sunday Bloody Sunday, I Will Follow....might be played on more recent tours, but they could never match up to what you're in for here. The band have as much energy as Mick Jagger, but they carried this show off in such a way, you want to listen over and over (again they were only 20-something years old). No wonder this band are still the biggest in the world. Some other highlights was Bono yelling at someone to stay out at the beginning of Wire or MLK - it was one of them, the killer scream during TUF, the almost opera-like part during Electric Co, the racing guitar riffs in Pride, Gloria and New Year's Day, and the almost nine-minute Bad. And ''40'' should always be the way to end a U2 show. Too, too many highlights to name, but that's just a few. Audience: This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated. Sound: First up, the sound is immensely better than the Adelaide show I recently picked with no serious sound defects, sound drops or problems, but it sounds like a mono recording - but that loses none of the sheer brilliance here. If a lossless one day comes up, I'll be more than happy to take it. Overall: I'm gonna say exactly what I thought: FUCKING AWESOME

Performance: It has that feeling of a Lovetown, the crowd are energetic, the band are enjoying themselves and the setlist is preformed to perfection. Mr Clayton sound creative and free, something that’s been lacking it the post JT era, Bono is a ever, other the top and in total connection with the Audience, the Edge never but a fret wrong and Mullen was on top form. If this was a gig from Zoo TV to Vertigo, at this time I would break into some kind of set list rate (maybe next time folks). This one had really surprise, flow and abstract creativity. The band was not bored, laid back or biding time though the songs they play week in, week out. They enjoyed every song and maintain the same energy though the whole gig, creating the following highlights: Wire: I don’t really like this song, but Clayton doesn’t play bass like that anymore MLK: Close Encounters don’t you think Party Girl: Sounded like a bit of a laugh if you were there Gloria: it was the greatest song on October and it still sounded crap, this gives it justice, problem the best of the Gig Bad: Simply a great performance of a great song Audience: This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated. Sound: This really was a surprise, downloading this and looking at the 4 star rating, i was preparing for a gig to be loud and listenable but lacking bass and having a running commentary from some Scotsman who came to see The Proclaimers. I was wrong, the sound is clear, the audience there but not annoying, and the bass was loud and clear (one of the best I’ve heard from an audience recording). Apart from sounding a bit distant, the energy of the gig can be heard loud and clear. Overall: This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated.

This review is written by stj0691 and written on 2008-08-19 07:23 pm. Performance: 11 OCLOCK TICK TOCK - Kinda new to me, I've only heard it live. The Boy Tour versions are better though I must say. I Will Follow - One of my first U2 songs from my early days (when I only had the Joshua Tree). Very fresh sounding. One of the highlights of the show. Wire - I haven't given TUF a listen yet, and it's not due for a listen until mid July. Good song, like IWF very fresh sounding. MLK - One of the things I noticed with this boot is you have two Boy tracks, three TUF songs, then 3 War tracks. I also like how MLK, to me, has been the lead in to TUF (song). TUF - I love this song. I've listened to this and ASOH from the album, very good songs that should be brought back. Best version I've heard so far. Surrender - To me, it was forgettable. Didn't do much for me. Two Hearts Beat As One - Same thing as Surrender, didn't do much for me. Seconds - I anticipated hearing this song, the song just sticks in my head and I don't mind. I like this song a lot. Good performance of this song. Makes me want to hear more from this era, if this song is on any of the boots. ASOH - YES YES YES. One of the highlights of the show. I love the live version, and this time it kicks arse! Another highlight. SBS - I think the show regained energy here. Maybe because it was one of their hits and loved played it, maybe. All I know is this built on how great ASOH was. The Electric Co. - One of the Boy tracks I kinda like, not as much as IWF and OOO. This version is on fire! Bad - Shh! Quiet down, let this song make the only noise. No "wide awake though". That's what kept it from the highlight reel. October - Sorry, but this song does no justice to the boot. Just don't like it. Lowlight for me. NYD - Good early version of a War hit. I would like to day U2 should drop this song entirely for the next tour. If they're gonna play UTEOTW, I want to hear WGRYWH after. As for the performance, top notch. Pride - I love the fact that Pride closed the regular set until the 1st leg of Zoo TV (But I Still Haven't Found, oops there I go again ). Another great performance, but there's more energy in other shows. Party Girl - The crowd knows this one, but I don't. Didn't do justice for the show, but probably for the crowd. Gloria - The only song I like from October, so far. Good performance, probably the best I've heard so far. 40 - The way a show should end. I don't care if U2 came up with the perfect ending song on the next album either. This is the way a show should end, no buts. One of the best I've heard in a long time. Highlight reel topper. Audience: This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated. Sound: Perhaps if anyone finds a lossless version, put that up. I don't mind downloading several times from RS to get this one. This is one of the things that kinda got to me about this one Overall: If I ever see this show on Bootleg Archive (they only allow lossless, nothing else), I'll notify one of the crew right away! In also must say at least the band is audible, I've heard worse boots. I've heard better. I really liked this one. Awesome pick!

Not the best i've heard from the tour by any means (try the gig from the night before for all round awesomeness) but hard to fault overall. Set was standard for that particular stage of the tour and the War material really compliments the new material. Indian Summer Sky was sadly not included in the set. Wire was as thumping as ever but didn't come across as well in the recording due to the problems with the recording listed above. Bad was disappointing with the lack of snippets, bass and 'Wide Awakes'. Both TUF and ASOH seem to be getting high praise here but i'm not seeing why. It sounds like the band still hadn't worked how to play each of those particular songs at that time of the tour. The GLORIA snippet at the end of Surrender was one of the worst i've ever heard. I love the start of Two Hearts but the song itself isn't that great. Hilights for me were the energy of the gig in general, good crowd reaction, Wire and Surrender. Audience: This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated. Sound: As you all know, I am one picky little bitch. The sound here is good, if not very good. All instruments and vocals are audible and clear, good crowd balance and for the age of the recording I have to say it's very good. My only gripe (and a big one it is) is the lack of power. You can hear Adam's bass lines and Larry's drums but there is no kick or thump from them. This is most likely caused by the lack of lineage and known source. I was able to get a little life into the recording after adding some bass via itunes but I like a recording to be naturally good and not need fettled with. One the whole it deserves it's 4 star rating and it will stay as 4 but for me personally I would give it a 3.5. I'll let you guys sample the lossless when it pops up and I bet the difference is massive Overall: The gig from the night before and 1984-11-15 - London both rate higher for me on audio and performance.
